The Kootenai County Fairgounds in Idaho State was the first home of the Coeur d'Alene Turf Club in 1965. Now better known as the North Idaho State Fair, the Coeur d'Alene Turf Club first held races on Tuesday 5th May 1970, offering a programme of Quarter horse and thoroughbred races as soon as Idaho relaxed its gambling laws to allow a pari-mutuel to operate. The 5 furlong oval track, with separate 3 furlong chute, had a home straight of 213 metres. When crowds began to fall in the early 1980s the track opened the way for greyhound racing, but all to no avail, the track holding its final meeting on Sunday 6th November 1983. |
